The Odeon (Washington, D.C., 1848)
3rd public exhibition of the Greek Slave: 25 January through 25 March 1848
In Washington, D.C., "the place chosen for [the statue's] exhibition was a hall known as the Odeon, located on the corner of Pennsylvania Avenue and Four-and-one-half Street (now 4th Street NW), at that time the business center of the city" (Wunder 226). There was talk of displaying the Greek Slave at the Smithsonian, but that idea never came to fruition due to complications regarding admission fees. This exhibition was comparatively less successful than the previous two, with a profit yield of only about $446.90, or $18,090.91 in today's money. As a result, Miner Kellogg, a friend of Powers's who was acting as the overseer and manager of the tour, chose to shut down the exhibition early.
