The Birmingham Athenic Institute was established in 1841 at Suffolk Street, Birmingham, England. It was a society with the goal of providing physical and intellectual improvement, as well as amusement, for its members. The patron of the society in 1846 was Lord John Manners, 7^th Duke of Rutland, a leader in the Young England movement and M.P.
