Austria

Austria is a country in central Europe, and its current capital is Vienna, which has long been a major European cultural city. Formerly part of the Holy Roman Empire, in the early nineteenth century, the Empire of Austria was founded. The Congress of Vienna took place in 1815 to end the Napoleonic Wars. The Austrian Archduke Franz Ferdinand was assassinated in Sarajevo in 1914, which sparked the beginning of World War I. In 1938, Austria was annexed to the German Third Reich and fought with the Axis Powers in World War II. Notable Austrians include musicians Franz Schubert, Johann Strauss, and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
