Beachy Head

Beachy Head is a well known coastline that faces southward on the English Channel within the county of East Sussex. Its 500 feet of chalk cliff faces downwards and is subject to erosion from heavy winds from the southwest.

The name "Beachy head" comes from the original French word "Beauchef", meaning "Beautiful Headland", and it had no relation to any beaches. Beachy Head has history of smuggling, a landmark for ships, ship wrecks, and wars.

Charlette Smith describes the natural sights and aspects of this coastline as well as the historical events that occured there in her poem "Beachy Head"
