Bogotá

Bogotá is the capital of Colombia and was founded in 1538 by conquistador Gonzalo Jiménez de Quesada. It is located in the Andes mountains and is the third highest capital in South America in terms of elevation. The country’s main branches of government all reside here, and the city is home to many universities and research centers, as well as the Museo del Oro—the most visited tourist attraction in Colombia, which displays indigenous pottery and textiles and pre-Columbian gold.
