Cairo

Cairo is the capital city of Egypt, located in the northeast of the country. Cairo was founded in 969 CE along the Nile delta, though the area had long held strategic importance. The Black Death killed nearly 200,000 people from 1348 to 1517. The city was under British occupation from 1882 until the twentieth century. Tahrir Square in the city was the focal point of the Egyptian Revolution of 2011.
