Cure and Nursing Home Illenau

A leading German asylum, the Cure and Nursing Home Illenau (1842–1940) promoted music therapy for healing over pharmaceutics. The institution had a choir and orchestra, hosted concerts, and employed a music teacher to work with the physicians. All performed pieces received medical approval so as to avoid anything too demanding. The asylum at Illenau published a hymn book that became standard for German asylums. Illenau also had a gymnasium and taught dance classes.
