Deaconess Institute

The Deaconess Institute is located in at Kaiserswerth, a district of Düsseldorf, a city in northwest Germany. It was founded in 1836 by Theodor and Friederike Fliedner, a Lutheran pastor and his wife, to promote voluntary action and train women workers to help the poor through providing food, clothing, medical care and education. Both Elizabeth Fry and Florence Nightingale trained there.
