Dracula
Dracula, by Bram Stoker, is a tale which has affected an innumerable amount of literature and media in today's world as he depicts the most iconic vampire in history. The horrors and death brought about by such a villainous being is so haunting that vampires are a telltale sign of Halloween just as zombies and werewolves are. Despite the iconic vampire, there is a layer to this story that many often forget. This is a story with immigration. Although Dracula is not a good person, he is immigrating into England and feels like an outsider on top of being a separate species from the rest of the English civilization. In today's time, immigration into the United Kingdom has recently become trickier as there are systematic changes being made towards its methodology. In an article by Diane Taylor, she discusses The Home Office's admission of the mass inaccessibility of digital visas due to immigrants coming from lower income homes. Taylor writes, " Others who have obtained them may not be able to access their digital account online because of a lack of internet access or technical glitches in the system." Access to the proper technologies necessary to sustain life is a real issue which affects more than just immigration as we experienced during COVID 19 in regards to careers and education. For the purposes of this story, it is important to remember how vital an issue immigration is, and how understandable it can be that Dracula himself lashes out due to his fears and outlier-esque emotions. Real people feel and act this way, so we can use Dracula as a means for remembering how we treat others.
