Fort Erie was formerly a British fort located in Fort Erie, Ontario, just across from Buffalo, New York and separated by the Niagara River. The bloodiest battle in Canadian history occurred at Fort Erie in the War of 1812. The Fort was sold to the Niagara Parks Commission in 1901, which began reconstruction in the 1930s.
