Hazarajat

The Hazarajat is a region in central Afghanistan inhabited by the Shia Hazara people. In the thirteenth century, Genhis Khan and his Mongol army invaded the region; the area has also been under control of the Timurid dynasty, the Mughal Empire, and the Durrani Empire. The nineteenth century witnessed a slow coalescing of tribes and consolidation of local districts, and the region remained relatively independent.
