Hull House

Hull House was founded by Jane Addams in 1889 in Chicago as a settlement house for immigrants and the working class. Hull House was founded as part of a women’s movement promoting education and autonomy and social reform. The volunteers taught classes in literature, history, and art among other subjects. Though much of the complex has been demolished, the original building and one additional building still stand today and are designated as US National Historic Landmarks.
