Imperial College of Science and Technology

Imperial College London (officially Imperial College of Science, Technology, and Medicine) is a university whose main campus is located in South Kensington, central London. It originally received Prince Albert’s patronage and comprised the Royal College of Chemistry (1845) situated in Oxford Street, Westminster, and the Royal School of Mines (1851) based in Jermyn Street, St James’s. Both institutions relocated to South Kensington in 1872. It also comprised the Imperial Institute built between 1888 and 1893 near Queen’s Gate, South Kensington, a 700 feet long building in the neo-renaissance style.
