In Ireland Makes Irish by Elizabeth Bowen, she describes this country as a place that turns foreigners into Irish people by its sheer power -- especially the power in its nature, where "even indoors, the rooms themselves never have a totally indoor feeling" because the outside is so sweeping and pervasive. She talks about the culture of Ireland, saying it is "not unlike some in the deep South of the United States."

According to the Encyclopedia Brittanica, Ireland is the most western island in the British Isles. It gets a lot of rain and therefore has lush flora and greenery. It was originally Gaelic and is now a pretty diverse country.
