Isis River, England (Eighteen Hundred and Eleven, a Poem)

Known more commonly in modern times as The River Thames, The Isis River stretches an astounding 205 miles in length from source to basin. The famous London bridge runs above it in the city of the same name, where the water has an average depth of 18 feet. The river itself is surrounded by many leisurely activities- from public parks to restaurants boasting traditional "English food"- and supplies the city with a large part of its freshwater supply. After being declared biologically dead due to heavy amounts of pollutants being dumped in its banks during the 1950's, the Isis River is slowly being brought back to its former beauty (the focus of many poems) under new pollution control laws.

The Anna Letitia Barbaulds Poem Eighteen Hundred and Eleven, a Poem , the river Isis is said to "draw inspiring air" to the "statesmen, sages, poets [and] heroes trod"
