Islington

Islington is a district in London, known for the landmark the Angel, a building that once marked a toll gate on the historic Great North Road. The Regent’s Canal, connecting the Limehouse Basin to the Grand Union Canal, passes through the district. In the nineteenth century, Islington Green was the site of a number of music halls and theatres. Islington appears in notable twentieth-century books including Douglas Adams’s Hitchhikers’ Guide to the Galaxy and J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series (No. 12 Grimmauld Place is a fictitious street in Islington).
