Japanese Village

The Japanese village, located in Knightsbridge, London, was a Victorian exhibition of Japanese culture set up by Tannaker Buhicrosan. The exhibition took place from January 1885 to June 1887 and was visited by over a million people. The exhibition was particularly popular with fans of the Aesthetic Movement. Gilbert and Sullivan visited the exhibit when writing their 1885 opera, The Mikado.
