Le Havre

Le Havre is a port city located on the English Channel in the Normandy region of northwestern France. The city was founded in 1517 to replace the use of the harbors of Harfleur and Honfleur, which had begun to silt up. In the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, the port was a prominent site for the French slave trade. In the nineteenth century, the town developed industrial shipyards.
