It is one of the oldest cities in Europe, and is home to the twelfth-century Lisbon Cathedral. In the sixteenth century, Lisbon was a commerce hub. It was the site of a series of revolutions in the twentieth century, in 1910, 1926, and 1974, which established a series of republican governments.
