Malta

The Republic of Malta is an island nation in the Mediterranean Sea. Its capital is Valletta. Malta has long had strategic naval importance. It was captured by Napoleon in 1798 but was made part of the British Empire by the Treaty of Paris in 1814. It gained independence in 1964 and became a republic in 1974.
