Morocco is a country located in North Africa, bordering both the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea. Its capital is Rabat, and its largest city is Casablanca. Morocco was founded as a nation state in 788 CE by Idris I and has been ruled by many dynasties. It was the only northwest African country to resist Ottoman occupation. In 1912, Morocco was divided into two protectorates by the Spanish and the French, but it regained independence in 1956. Morocco is a constitutional monarchy with a King of Morocco and an elected Parliament. Islam is the predominant religion.
