Newton Abbot
Newton Abbot is located on the River Teign in Devon, England. Historically a market town trading in leather, wool, and ball clay (used for making pottery), the arrival of the South Devon Railway Company in 1846 transformed the town into one of steam-powered industry. Indeed, one of the nineteenth century’s greatest engineering entrepreneurs, Isambard Kingdom Brunel, experimented with steam-powered and atmospheric rail technology in Newton Abbot.
