Old Spitalfields Market

The Old Spitalfields Market is a covered market in Spitalfields, in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, London, England. There has been a market on the site since 1683 when Charles II granted the rights for a market there. The market was acquired by the City of London in 1920 and split so that Old Spitalfields market stayed on the original site, and the fruit and vegetable market was moved to Leyton and named New Spitalfields Market. New Spitalfields Market is now Europe’s leading horticultural market.
