Ottawa city was named the Capital of Canada in 1857 (chosen by Queen Victoria) and it is located in southeastern Ontario. Ottawa’s history begins in 1613. The Napoleonic Wars created a need for lumber that the river in Ontario could provide, which also made Ontario vulnerable to attacks during war, because of this the British made Rideau River a canal that served as a shipping route to divert shipping traffic. The canal s important because of the transportation of goods and timber. Margaret Attwood is a canadian author born in Ottawa in 1939.
