After marrying Rochemont Barbauld in 1774, she moved to Palgrave, where Anna Letita Barbauld taught at the Palgrave Academy. This period was significant for her contributions to education and children's literature.

The village was primarily agricultural, with most residents engaged in farming and related activities. The landscape of Palgrave would have been dominated by fields and pastures. Life in Palgrave was centered around the local community and the church. The social structure was typical of rural England, with a clear hierarchy based on land ownership and farming. Formal education opportunities were limited, especially for girls. However, the presence of educated families, like the Barbaulds, would have been an exception and a source of intellectual activity. The village infrastructure was basic, with unpaved roads and simple, thatched cottages. The rural setting provided a peaceful environment, but also meant that travel and communication with larger towns were limited. 

Palgrave in the 1740s was a typical English village, with a strong sense of community and a way of life centered around agriculture and the church. The presence of the Barbauld family, with their educational and literary interests, would have added a unique dimension to the village's cultural life.
