Paris, France

In Chapter XXIII, Vincent Hemming finds Mary once again and begs her to run away with him to Paris. He is not happy with the life he is living and wants a clean start away from his wife and child. Vincent says to Mary, "The mail train leaves at eight—I shall catch that, and go straight through to Paris. Mary, dear child,' he said, drawing her suddenly down beside him on the sofa, 'come with me. We know the world, now, you and I". Today, many people refer to Paris as the "city of love" because of the beauty in architecture, incredible cuisine, and all-around romantic atmosphere. Later in Chapter XXIV, as Mary walks around North Gate, the smell and scenery remind her of Paris and she remembers how Vincent approached her and quickly dreams about how she could be there.
