Perkins School for the Blind in Boston

Now located in Watertown, Massachusetts, just outside of Boston, Perkins School for the Blind is the United States’ oldest school for the blind, founded in 1829. Its original name was the New England Asylum for the Blind. Its former locations included a house on Pleasant Street, a mansion on Pearl Street, and six-acre location in Jamaica Plain, a residential district in Boston. Noted teacher Anne Sullivan graduated from Perkins and went to work with Helen Keller, later returning to Perkins with Keller in 1888.
