Salisbury in The Remains of the Day
Salisbury is a cathedral city located in Wiltshire, England. Wiltshire is a region in southwest England, about three hours from London. A well known feature of the city is Salisbury Cathedral, which was built in the thirteenth century. In the 1940s, factories across England were destroyed by the Germans, so shadow factories were built in Salisbury to produce British aircrafts used in World War II.
In The Remains of the Day, Stevens stops in Salisbury on his trip to see Miss Kenton. He is told by a local to hike up a hill to see the views, which he does. After climbing to the top, he finds himself thinking about the views he saw for the rest of the day.
