Samarqand

Samarqand (alternatively Saramkand) is a city in modern-day Uzbekistan and is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in Central Asia. It was located on the Silk Road, and has been conquered by Alexander the Great (in 329 BCE) and by Genghis Khan (in 1220 CE).
