Scottish Highlands

The Scottish Highlands is a historic region of Scotland, culturally distinct from the Lowlands to the south. While sparsely populated, the Highlands maintained its Gaelic culture and became a sight of resistance against British colonization. The Scottish Highlands are famously romanticized by Sir Walter Scott’s novel Waverly, published in 1814.
