Simpson's-in-the-Strand

Simpson’s-in-the-Strand is a traditional English restaurant. It is located in the Strand, in the City of Westminster, London, England. The restaurant began in 1828 as a smoking room and later became a coffee house, where it became famous as a venue for playing chess. Around 1850, under the guidance of caterer John Simpson, the restaurant gained fame for its traditional English food, such as roast meats, and began a custom of carving large joints of meat on trolleys in front of guests. Simpson’s is part of the Savoy Buildings and is currently run by Fairmont Hotels and Resorts.
