Somes Island

The Somes Island is a large island in Wellington Harbor in New Zealand, at the mouth of the Hutt River. Its original name from the Māori people was Matiu, but it was renamed in 1839 for Joseph Somes of the New Zealand Company. The island is populated by a population of little blue penguins, spotted skink, and the silver gull.
