St. Peter's Basilica

St. Peter’s Basilica is a Roman Catholic cathedral in Vatican City. St. Peter’s is considered one of the holiest Catholic shrines. Designed by several of the most renowned Renaissance artists including Michelangelo and Bernini, St. Peter’s Basilica is a masterpiece of Renaissance architecture. Catholic tradition holds that St. Peter’s tomb is directly below the Basilica’s alter. Directly outside the Basilica is St. Peter’s Square, which annually draws large crowds of worshippers and tourists.
