St. Thomas' Hospital
St. Thomas’ Hospital is a teaching hospital located on the south bank of the river Thames. It has been located in Lambeth, central London, since 1871, having been previously based in Southwark. Florence Nightingale established her nursing school at the hospital in 1860, and the new hospital building in Lambeth was constructed on the “pavilion principle,” popularized by Nightingale, that mortality rates would decrease with improved ventilation. The hospital is now one of the campuses of the King's College London School of Medicine. Related BRANCH article: Lara Kriegel, "On the Death—and Life—of Florence Nightingale, August 1910."
