Stepney

Stepney is a district in East London, England, in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. The area grew significantly in the nineteenth century, especially to house immigrant workers and displaced members of the London poor. It was known for its overcrowding, poverty and violence. A third of the housing was destroyed during the London Blitz during the Second World War, after which many areas were redeveloped with tower blocks and housing estates.
