Sign for Steventon, Birthplace of Jane AustenJane Austen was born in Steventon, Hampshire, in 1775 and lived here until the family moved to Bath in 1801. Her juvenilia, including "Love and Freindship," "The History of England," "Catharine" and other pieces were written here. She also drafted "Lady Susan" (her first mature work), "Elinor and Marianne" (which would become Sense and Sensibility), "First Impressions" (which would become Pride and Prejudice), and "Susan" (which would become Northanger Abbey) while living here.
