Stowe House and Garden

Stowe is an estate in the county of Buckinghamshire in southern England. The estate belonged to the Temple-Grenville family, including the Whig politician Viscount Cobham, who significantly refurbished the house and gardens. The house dates from the seventeenth century but was significantly expanded and redesigned in the eighteenth century. The building now houses an independent school. The property’s landscape gardens were developed in the eighteenth century by designers including Capability Brown. The gardens are now run by the National Trust and are open to the public.
