The London Borough of Tower Hamlets is located in east London, north of the river Thames. It was formed in 1965 in the merging of the Metropolitan Boroughs of Stepney, Poplar, and Bethnal Green. The borough covers much of the historic East End of London and includes much of the Docklands region.
