Trinidad

Trinidad is the larger island of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago in the eastern Caribbean Sea. The country’s capital city, Port of Spain, is located on the island. Trinidad was under Spanish colonial rule until 1797. Trinidad and Tobago became a British colony in 1889 and gained independence from Britain in 1962. Modern culture in Trinidad and Tobago reflects a mix of African, European, Latino, Jewish, and Arab cultures, and the country is renowned for its Carnival celebration and Calypso music.
