Tuscany

Tuscany is a region in west-central Italy that lies along the Tyrrhenian and Ligurian seas. It comprises the provinces of Massa Carrara, Lucca, Pistoia, Prato, Firenze, Livorno, Pisa, Arezzo, Siena, and Grosseto. The region is regarded as the birthplace of the Italian Renaissance.

To supporters of Italian independence, the short-lived uprising in Tuscany, leading to a new constitution as well as freedom of the press and of religious practice, seemed to be the first step to overthrowing foreign rulers
