University of Westminster

The University of Westminster was founded in 1838 as the Royal Polytechnic Institution. It became known as the University of Westminster in 1992. Its main campus is in Regent Street in London. There are three colleges and twelve schools housed in the university, including a business school and a law school. Built by William Mountford Nurse, it was opened originally at 209 Regent Street with an emphasis on practical knowledge of arts and sciences, especially concerning manufacturing and mining. There were large exhibition and lecture hall. Prince Albert became a patron in 1841. IN 1896, the Lumière Brothers depicted the first moving film at the Regent Street Cinema (located on the main campus).
