Vitoria
Vitoria-Gasteiz is the seat of government and the capital city of the Basque Autonomous Community and of the province of Araba/Álava in northern Spain. The Battle of Vitoria (21 June 1813) was fought in the basin of Vitoria—an area surrounded by mountains and protected to the north and west by the Zadorra River—between a combined English, Spanish, and Portuguese army under the Duke of Wellington, and a French army commanded by Napoleon Bonaparte.
