Westminster, London

Westminster is actually a city with the greater area of London. Just like there is he City of London which actually is within the area known as London. Like New York has the Bronx, Manhattan, Queens etc. Its somewhat like a "borough" of London. The area also does not lie within the original roman city, which means therefore it is younger than the city of london. The area as we see it in Mrs. Dalloway is wealthy and very politically key. This is because the Parliament building, Westminster Abbey, and other important institutions reside within the city of Westminster. 10 Downing Street, the residence of the British Prime Minister is also in Westminster, along with the Royal Household at Buckingham Palace. The City of Westminster really grew up around what we know as Westminster Abbey. The Abbey was built as a catholic church in the second century AD. The church was originally known as St. Peters Cathedral, as the story of its creation says that St. Peter himself came to the cathedral from on high to perform the rites and rituals of consecrating a church. From this point the area around it grew. Somewhere in the early second century the Palace of Westminster was built and became the home of the Royals. By the Time Mr Dalloway is working in the government, the Palace of Westminster has become the home of the Houses of Parliament. Most if not all of the points each of us has added to the map falls into the City of Westminster (See the link below). It is important to note that Westmsinter Abbey was built as a catholic church but is no longer. It is now an Anglican Religious building and the traditional site of the Royal Coronation.

Today the area remains a major focal point of London. The government still resides and works here. The houses of Parliament still meet in the Palace of Westminster. The Queen still lives in Buckingham Palace, and the wealthy still reside here. The average cost of a home in Westminster today is £1,232,334, which his calculates to $1,613,987.84. The area is also home to expensive shops and art galleries. There are also a great deal of historical and tourist geared attractions here. Ironically one of the more interesting stops is the Benjamin Franklin House, which was the primary residence of the great American founder while he was in London. Unfortunately the area has also seen several terror attacks including the more recent Westminster Bridge attack in September of 2017. This wounded 49 and claimed the lives of 6 people including 4 innocent bystanders, a police officer, and the perpetrator who was killed on the grounds of the Palace of Westminster.
