Yokohama
Yokohama (which means “horizontal beach”) is Japan’s second most populous city. It sits on Tokyo Bay on the main island of Honshu. Following the end of Japan’s relative isolation in the nineteenth century, it quickly developed into a thriving port city. A 1923 earthquake devestated the city, and it was later bombed by air raids in 1945 during World War II.
