York House
York House was a mansion on the Strand, in the City of London (London, England). It was one of a string of mansions with direct access from the gardens to the River Thames. It was originally the London townhouse of the Bishops of Norwich by 1237 and later owned by the Duke of Suffolk, the Archbishop of York when the house was granted the name York House), and the Dukes of Buckingham. The second Duke sold the house to developers in 1672. There is a surviving piece of the mansion, the York Watergate or Buckingham Watergate, in what are now the Embankment Gardens. The watergate was built by George Villiers, 1st Duke of Buckingham, around 1626.
