In this Digital Humanities project, we focus on the footprint of Ulysses in modern literature by analyzing The Betrothed by Manzoni and the movie Interstellar. We have analyzed the main characters’ journey and their personal growth.
Click if you want a quick view of the periods and locations in which the three masterpieces were released.
A way to look at the similarities/differences is to analyze every work separately by following a chronological order.
Let’s start with the Odyssey:
• here you have its timeline
• here you have its map
Moving on to The Betrothed:
• here you have its timeline

To finish we show you Interstellar:

As we have presented, Ulysses has set an example and has influenced the two literary and cinematic masterpieces we have analyzed. As a matter of fact, all the three main characters go around the world(s), face challenges and come back different.
The American mythologist Joseph Campbell studied the myths from different parts of the world and coined the concept of “The Hero’s Journey”, which is the pattern that repeats in our three different parts of the project.
Here are the sources we used.
