Cost of a Coach

Inside seat-  between 3½ and 4½ old pence per mile (about 1.28- 1.62 pounds and 1.56-1.98 dollars per mile)

Roof seat- between 2 and 2½.

A stagecoach could travel 60-70 miles a day and Jane seemed to be on it all day so the cost would have been about 93.60-118.8 assuming Jane traveled 60 Miles to Lowood.

When she leaves Thornfield she has 20 shillings (103.11 dollars today) and that got her 2 days of travel with some left over that she forgot

*These numbers are just estimates. The journey to Lowood may have been fewer miles than estimated or the fare for Jane leaving Thornfield may have been lower, or the driver may have been driving slow and only gone 50 miles a day.
