Northanger Abbey, written in 1803, was Austen's first completed novel, but it was published posthumously in 1817 along with Persuasion. In contrast with her other work, this novel comments and satirizes Gothic romance rather than fitting into the aesthetic of Regency literature we attribute to her other work.
