Concepción is an important city in present-day Chile, approximately 500 km south of Chile’s capital Santiago. The city plays an important role in domestic trade, given its location in one of the more industrialized regions of Chile. The city was founded in 1550 in what is present-day Penco but relocated to its current location after a series of devastating earthquakes and tsunamis. Concepción is currently home to several major Chilean universities.
