"The Acts were introduced as an attempt to regulate 'common prostitutes', in order to reduce the prevalence of sexually transmitted diseases within the British army and navy."The Contagious Disease act  was specifically made for women during the Victorian era, although it was only for "prostitutes", it still mainly targeted women. It adds on to the fact that women were specifically targeted becasue we all know STD's can be trasmitted between men as well. The women were the only ones who had to report to the police or faced consequences for it. It is significant because it shows how much power the men had and how restricted the women were.
